How I got into marketing

Back in 2012, I was fascinated by digital marketing. I was all over the place, reading all sorts of blogs and trying out all sorts of… well, tactics.

Post 5 times a day on Twitter at these specific hours… Check!

Write two 1,000-word blog posts per week… Check!

Create a 14-day autoresponder sequence… Check!

I was “successful” in terms of getting things done but I wasn’t successful in making sales.

The turning point for me was when I attended a two-day workshop on building an online business. It taught me the most important lesson in my marketing career—it’s all about the customer.

The biggest mistake you can make is to focus on your product or service.

People don’t really care WHAT you do or HOW you do it. They care about the RESULTS they’re going to get.

Why health and wellness?

I used to think about my business as "work". Work isn't fun. It isn't exciting. That's common sense.

So, I said Yes to just about any project that came my way. I thought,

You gotta do what you gotta do to stay in business...

I kept going like this until I got bogged down with boring projects and clients from hell. Of course, projects and clients were not the problem. The problem was that I wasn't passionate about most of the work that I did and I wasn't getting the right clients FOR ME.

One day, I got sick of it all. I didn't want to get out of bed and I didn't even want to think about reading my email.

So, I tried to reevaluate. I thought back to all the projects that I'd done and tried to remember how I felt about them.

At that point, there was just one project that didn't feel like a burden. It was a healthy recipes ebook. Not only did I click with the client but I also got super-excited about it! While writing, I literally wanted to get up, throw my laptop and start cooking. That was when I finally "got it"...

Duh! Of course! I make my own energy bars, practice yoga, love jogging and nerd out on food supplements. Of course I want to work with health and wellness professionals!

How can you connect with your ideal customers?

It might sound like a Herculean task but it’s actually quite simple. All you need to do is learn to speak your ideal customer’s language.

That’s how you get your prospects thinking:

YES! This is exactly what I’m looking for!

And that’s how you get them to try or buy.

Put the client first, learn their language, use their words in your marketing and you will certainly succeed. That’s what this website is all about.

My goal is to give you all the tools, advice and help you need to put your clients at the heart of your business and build a compelling brand.
